One of the most important elements that can sometimes get overlooked in teaching is building classroom community. When done intentionally, it can do wonders to ease the challenges of classroom management, improve students’ attitudes toward learning, and create a positive environment where students feel welcome and supported.

   It is so important our students understand that writing is an important skill now, and crucial to their future! If we want students (even the reluctant ones!) to connect with and commit to developing their writing, then the topic must be relevant to their world and to things they value - in this case, their friends!
